The late header of semi Ajayi earned West Brom some time as they drew 1-1 against Fulham.
Marcus Bettinelli's mistake allowed following Anthony Knockaert had brilliantly put his side in front four minutes after the break, Ajayi to head home after 80 minutes in the Sky Bet Championship struggle on Saturday.
It meant the spoils were shared between a couple of the promotion favourites, although they stay somewhat off the group leaders' speed.
Fulham also had a few decent chances and dominated the first half. After 16 minutes it was Tom Cairney who found his own way through while in the half Sam Johnstone was called upon to deny Knockaert and Bobby Reid in rapid succession however he rattled the bar with his effort.
West Brom were pleased to sit but did occasionally carve out a chance. Charlie Austin had two half chances to score, the initial on 28 minutes he acrobatically smashed over the pub, the second seven minutes before the break as he headed Matt Phillips' into Bettinelli's arms.
It took a bit of magic after half-time for Knockaert to break the deadlock. Whether he meant it or not is a different thing entirely, however, the winger managed to come across the corner from the edge of the box which left Johnstone.
West Brom didn't really undermine until he gifted them their equaliser with 10 minutes to go, Bettinelli, who was in excellent shape all day. His attempt to find a corner apparent saw him palm the ball right.
Reed is seems to be becoming an excellent midfielder at this level, and having spent campaigns at Blackburn and Norwich. He aided restrain the game for big swathes of this activity at Craven Cottage with his metronomic passing. As it stands he is keeping Kevin McDonald and stalwarts Stefan Johansen on the seat.
Fulham visit Sheffield Wednesday at 3pm Saturday. West Brom are in action at home to Huddersfield on Sunday 22 at 12pm, live on Sky Sports Football.
